Use of Clenbuterol for Muscle Building: Safe or Not?

Clenbuterol, chemically known as “Clen, 4-amino-alpha (t-butyl-amino) methyl-3, 5-dichlorobenzyl alcohol”, is a decongestant and bronchodilator used for the reduction of fact and preservation of muscle. It falls under the category of steroids and is illegal for over-the-counter sales in most countries.

Traditionally, it was used to beef up livestock, but now it is gaining popularity among celebrities and bodybuilders due its high potency.

It works by increasing your internal body temperature, which causes BMR (basic metabolic rate) to increase, thereby burning calories, leaving only lean muscle.


Clen is usually started with a dose of 20 mcg. It is then slowly increased by 20 mcg per day to a maximum of 140 mcg for males and 120 mcg for females. The maximum dose is continued for as many days as deemed necessary and then slowly reduced to minimum dosage before tapering off.

This cycle is extremely crucial to check the individual’s tolerance to Clen. Also, there are dangerous side-effects, if the dosage is increased rapidly or high dosages are taken at once.

Optimal exercise and a balanced diet are still necessary while on Clen.  Also, some experience depression and withdrawal symptoms with Clen, as with other steroids.

Your balanced diet and exercise are to be maintained even after tapering off. It is advisable to maintain short cycles rather than a long term cycle because of the elevated metabolism, which your body maintains even after the cycle.

Clenbuterol does provide impressive positive results, but the downside should be considered too.
